5 Featured Bars You Should Visit in Taipei

Posted by FRNCi | | Taiwan Local Tips

Feeling like drinking this evening but not interested in going to clubs?
Even though Taiwan does not have the same bar culture as many European countries or even as some of its close neighbors like Korea for example, you will still be able to find exactly what you are looking for whether you prefer an Irish pub, a Shisha bar, a fancy cocktail place or even a live music spot.

Here are 5 bars you should definitely try when you are in Taipei!

1. Barcode

台北市信義區松壽路22號5F (Neo19)
5F, 22 Songshou Road, Taipei 110, Taïwan
Open Hours: 9pm – 2:30am

Located in Neo19, not far from Taipei 101, Barcode is definitely one of the classiest bars in the neighborhood. Cocktails are pretty unique (and often based with champagne) with a staff particularly well-trained; the lounge-style tables and sitting allow you to admire the amazing view of the city and buildings below. If you prefer to try your skill at one of the pool tables or listen to some live and relaxing jazz music, Barcode might also be the perfect place for you! Finally, there is also a VIP area, the Den, to enjoy some privacy and personalized services.

2. On Tap

No 21, Alley 11, Lane 216, Zhongxiao East Road
Open hours: 5pm – 1am (Happy Hour from 5pm to 8pm)

In a more casual style, “Taipei’s Only Real Pub” (as the pub likes to calls itself) might be a good alternative for all beer lovers. On Tap is the place for foreigners and expats, from students to CEOs, to gather and chill for a moment in a warm and pleasant atmosphere. Do not hesitate to try out the food if you feel hungry after a few beers: you will be able to find dishes like burgers, pastas, baked potatoes… Everything you can dream of and with special offers depending on the day (Burger night, Ladies night, Spicy Sunday…).

3. Indo China

No. 163, Section 4, Civic Blvd, Songshan District, Taipei City
Open hours: 7pm – 3am (5am on weekends)

What would be Taipei without All you can drink? Located near Zhongxiao Dunhua, Indochina only asks for a cheap entrance fee before letting you drink as much as you want to in a mysterious Indian atmosphere. You can choose between beers and a variety of cocktails, or have some fun playing darts with your friends in the back of the bar. This place might be the perfect idea if you need a pre-drink before going to club later on.

4. 1001 Nights

105, Taipei City, Songshan District, Section 5, Nanjing East Road
Open hours: 9pm – 4am (6am on weekends)

Probably the most famous and popular shisha bar in Taipei, 1001 Nights offers a unique atmosphere to sit down and spend a night with friends. The music goes from EDM to Persian songs (different style every night) with pleasant interludes, especially from belly dancers. Usually pretty calm early in the evening, the bar gets more crowded and crazier later on with people getting on the dancefloor to dance all night long between two shishas.

5. Tipsy Taipei

2F, No.63, ZhongQing South Road Section 1,Taipei

Less-known but deserving much more attention, Tipsy Taipei is perfect when looking for a warm and cozy place to spend the evening! Offering different and unique kinds of craft beers that you will not find anywhere else, this bar held by a beer lover tends to bring people together, creating a real family and allowing interaction with locals, like regular language exchange, tarot reading and even themed events sometimes.
